The Buzz Is Back: AIC Hockey Opens New Era October 30
A new chapter in American International College (AIC) hockey begins Friday, October 30, as the Yellow Jackets take the ice for their first regular-season game of the 2026-27 season against Salve Regina University at the Olympia Ice Center in West Springfield, Massachusetts. The 7:30 p.m. matchup marks the start of a 28-game schedule and the program’s new era of Northeast 10 Conference competition.
A Familiar Face Leads AIC’s Return to the Ice
Head Coach Patrick Tabb ’03 used to skate for the Yellow Jackets and now leads the team. Tabb played under AIC Athletics Hall of Famer Gary Wright before later coaching alongside him. Tabb also served as an assistant coach under Eric Lang ’98, ’08, during the program’s run of four consecutive Atlantic Hockey Association championships from 2019 to 2022.
“AIC has a long-standing tradition of hockey success, and we are excited to welcome the Yellow Jackets back to the ice this season,” said Director of Athletics Rob Kearney. “While the Division may have changed, the expectation has not. Coach Tabb has put together a team of high-talent, high-character young men who are excited to wear Rex on their chest and show the hockey world that AIC Hockey is back and ready to compete!”
A New Roster With Local Ties and International Talent
This season’s roster features 32 players, including three from Western Massachusetts: Johnny Blase of Westfield, Tyler Genovese of Wilbraham, and Luke Haynes of East Longmeadow. The roster also includes seventeen players representing eight countries, including Canada, Russia, and Sweden.
The regular-season schedule features 11 home games, with matchups against Northeast 10 Conference opponents and other New England colleges, including Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. The Yellow Jackets will also face regional rival Westfield State University.
How to Watch the Yellow Jackets This Season
Admission to regular-season home games is $5 for adults. Tickets are available at the door and online at AIC Yellow Jackets Athletics.
Fans can get an early look at the team during a preseason game against Western New England University on Friday, October 23, at 7:30 p.m. at the Olympia Ice Center. Admission is free.
