As domestic violence continues to result in tragic incidents across Western Massachusetts, the Hampden County Sheriff’s Office once again is putting the issue front and center at the 2026 Sheriff’s Shuffle 5K Road Race and 1.5-Mile Walk.

The annual event will bring hundreds of runners and walkers to Holyoke’s beautiful Ashley Reservoir on Sunday, Oct. 4, and Sheriff Nick Cocchi again is partnering with the YWCA of Western Massachusetts to support survivors and help prevent domestic violence before it turns deadly.

The race and walk begin at 10:30 a.m., and proceeds from the 2026 Sheriff’s Shuffle will directly benefit the YWCA of Western Massachusetts’ life-saving programs, which provide emergency shelter, advocacy, counseling, and critical support services to individuals and families in crisis.

“This event brings our community together for an important cause,” Sheriff Cocchi said. “Whether you run, walk, volunteer, sponsor, or simply help spread the word, your support makes a difference in the lives of people who need help, hope, and a path forward. We encourage everyone to join us as we stand together against domestic violence.”

Headquartered in Springfield with programs offered from several sites, including locations in Holyoke, Northampton and Westfield, the YWCA continues to see high demand for its domestic violence services. In a single year, the agency answered more than 6,500 hotline calls and served nearly 12,000 people. The YWCA operates an 11-acre campus at 1 Clough St. in Springfield that provides shelter to survivors of domestic violence and their children in a modern facility with state-of-the-art computerized security.
