SPRINGFIELD, MA – American International College (AIC) will celebrate its 140th Commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield. Members of the AIC Board of Trustees and the President’s Cabinet will preside over the ceremony.
Amie Parnes, senior political correspondent for The Hill covering national politics, will deliver the Commencement address to undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral recipients in the Class of 2025. She will also be awarded an honorary degree from AIC.
Parnes is the co-author, with Jonathan Allen, of three political books published by Crown/Penguin Random House: Lucky: How Joe Biden Barely Won the Presidency; the no. 1 New York Times best seller Shattered: Inside Hillary Clinton’s Doomed Campaign; and HRC: State Secrets and the Rebirth of Hillary Clinton, also a New York Times best seller. Their most recent book, Fight: Inside the Wildest Battle for the White House, was published in April 2025 by Morrow/HarperCollins and became another no. 1 New York Times best seller.
In recognition of her distinguished contributions to political journalism and her commitment to fostering public understanding of national affairs through rigorous and insightful reporting, Parnes will be awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from American International College. She holds a bachelor’s degree in print journalism and English from the University of Miami.
Her career includes roles as a staff writer at Politico and, during the first Trump administration, as a political analyst for CNN. Parnes has also appeared on CBS’s Face the Nation, NBC’s Meet the Press, ABC’s Good Morning America, and CBS This Morning.
“In her work as a journalist and author, Amie Parnes has shaped the national conversation and elevated public understanding of American politics,” said Michael Dodge, executive vice president for Academic Affairs and Student Life. “We are thrilled to welcome her to American International College as our 2025 Commencement speaker. It is a true honor to recognize her achievements, and we look forward to the insight and inspiration she will share with our graduates as they prepare to embark on their own journeys of impact and purpose.”
Born in Miami, Florida, Parnes has been part of the Washington, D.C. political scene since 2005, covering Congress, three administrations, and five presidential campaigns. Earlier in her career, she covered the Florida delegation for Scripps Howard News Service.
Before transitioning to the political beat, Parnes was a staff writer for The Philadelphia Inquirer and worked as both an intern and stringer for The New York Times, where she covered the 2000 presidential election recount between George W. Bush and Al Gore.
