About

Junior Achievement of Western Massachusetts (JAWM) was founded in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1919, making the organization the first chapter. Now, as part of the international organization serving 100 countries, Junior Achievement Worldwide, and the national organization, Junior Achievement USA, with 90 locations, the JA network has grown to be one of the largest organizations serving young people in the world. Today, JAWM serves thousands of young people ages 5 to 25 years old in Western Massachusetts, parts of Worcester County, and Vermont. Junior Achievement’s learning experiences promote the transferable skills and competencies students need to take advantage of economic opportunity and achieve economic mobility. Our lessons use financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurial concepts to emphasize the importance of continuing education and training beyond high school, especially in high-growth, high-demand fields. At the same time, our experiential learning approach ensures students gain the critical and creative thinking, collaboration, communication, and technical literacy skills needed to become lifelong learners to navigate “what’s next” in our ever-changing world.
